Scott Pennington is dedicated to his chosen medium, wood, not only as a profession, but also as an art form. He was drawn to the process of wood working from a very early age. Both his father and his grandfather maintained active workshops, making many things that were needed for their own homes. Helping his father build in his workshop was where the first seeds were planted for Scott’s love of woodworking.
In his teenage years Scott developed an interest in fine arts and photography. He attended the Maryland Institute, College of Art and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1995. While in college, his artwork focused largely on woodworking as a method of exploring the nature of design. His sculptures, which he still creates today, incorporate architectural elements, as well as explorations of form and function. These creations helped to inspire in him an appreciation for furniture and architectural design.
After college Scott pursued woodworking as a career, focusing on traditional building methods and techniques. He sought out his own commissions and also worked with several established businesses. Eventually this led Scott to work fulltime for a small local woodshop. While honing his trade, his ability to interpret a client’s needs and desires, both aesthetically and functionally led him to manage this shop, which he did for the next five years.
Driven by the desire to provide quality craftsmanship and stimulating design to a broad audience, Scott founded Scott Pennington Woodworking in early 2004. Starting the business has given Scott and his staff the opportunity to work with a wide range of clients, with diverse needs and design challenges. Today, with over a decade of personal and professional experience, Scott continues to flourish in the ever changing and growing market for custom woodworking. |
